On the first morning, do less. Walk until the village roofs fall below the meadow line, then stop. Pale limestone changes by the minute here; the mountain you saw at breakfast will be another by lunch.
A valley with its own voice
Alta Badia’s Ladin culture belongs at the centre of a journey. Start with the small museum in San Cassiano, then follow the thread to a bakery, a carved balcony and a bowl of barley soup. The landscape makes more sense when you know something of the people who work it.
Let lunch be the destination
Choose a staffed mountain hut reachable by an established path. Keep the walk within your ability and leave a weather margin. A good day might contain one trail, one table and a long afternoon back at your base.
Leave a day unwritten
Mountain weather can rewrite a plan. Build in time for a sheltered woodland walk, a village visit or an afternoon with a book. Our sample designer treats these as part of the journey, rather than time to fill.
